Phase 1 Resurfacing - Completed
The Phase 1 and Phase 2 Resurfacing projects are complete. These projects repaired and resurfaced I-476 between I-95 and I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway). They involved removing (milling) approximately two inches of deteriorated asphalt pavement and laying two inches of new asphalt. This resurfacing project improved the ride quality while increasing the highway’s skid resistance and minimizing the potential for ponding when it rains.
In the Phase 1 Resurfacing project, PennDOT milled I-476's deteriorated pavement and repaved eight miles of four-lane highway between I-95 and Lawrence Road in Ridley, Nether Providence, Springfield and Marple townships. In addition, ramps were repaved at the Baltimore Pike and U.S. Route 1 interchanges and the concrete pavement was repaired on ramps at the I-95 and MacDade Road interchanges. This work was started in June 2005 and finished in November 2005.
Roadwork also was completed on I-95 at the I-476 interchange in Ridley Township. Asphalt was placed on the concrete pavement and five bridges were repaired.
